I never thought I would find myself writing a testimonial about yoga, but am very glad to be doing just that. I was a 44 year old, ex front row rugby player, with a bad back, weak core and zero flexibility. As an active hunter, it was getting harder to get around the hill with the state of my body. Sick of my complaining, a work mate literally dragged me along to Exhale Yoga last year. Thanks to Katie and Carolyn, I haven’t looked back. Yoga has helped with my flexibility, breathing and core strength to the point where I was able to actively compete in 6 mountain endurances races last season. There’s still a long way to go, but there is no way I could have done this without yoga in my training mix. Katie and Carolyn are fun, welcoming and certainly know what they are doing. I guess you could say this is a testament to the fact that yoga is for everyone, including broken down front rowers!
We are so lucky to have Katie and her beautiful studio right here in Mid-Canterbury. I have practiced in yoga studios around NZ and can honestly say that what EXHALE YOGA offers is an extremely authentic Yoga experience for all. I love that the classes suit mixed-ability, there is absolutely no pressure or judgement to get into the perfect posture; the teachers give options to suit all attendees. My personal favourite are the Hot Yoga classes. The heat helps my not-so-young-and-supple-body to open up and my muscles to lengthen. The heat also adds another mental challenge, enabling me to be more present as I focus on calming my breath while my heart is pounding. After a hot yoga class I feel revitalised. My aches and pains are reduced and my head feels clear ready to deal with the outside world again. For me, yoga is more than just an amazing full-body workout. It sorts my head out, clearing away the unnecessary clutter enabling me to focus on my daily challenges with more patience and positivity and compassion to myself and others.
Thank you from my inner self; I cant explain how much the Workshop for Anxiety moved me. I was completly exhausted following the Workshop, and slept for over 10 hours- the best sleep since I can remember. Katie’s mindfulness of each persons’ individual journey shone through and her tranquil, safe space so touched me. Thank you sincerely.
